Boo at the Zoo

Tonight we went to the Children's Zoo to go to their Boo at the Zoo with some friends.  We took a Cheetah, a Tiger, and a Dinosaur.  The kids had a blast and scored quite a lot of candy.

I haven't been blogging a lot lately because I no longer have Elements on my computer and miss it so much.  Our computer starting acting up and I just haven't had the time to sit down and figure out what I want to do about editing software.  And in the process haven't been pulling out my camera as much as I like.   But I'm missing taking pictures, and so hopefully I can start getting my big camera out more often and not let the lack of editing software hold me up.  :)  I miss sharing and recording our days, so hopefully I can get back to it.

I found these pictures on my camera this morning when I was taking pictures of our carved pumpkins.  First, is Carlie getting busted sleeping in dad's chair!  She was so cute though that I took a picture before having her get off.  The rest are of the boys being silly on the front porch one day.  

Pumpkin Carving

This morning we all spent some time carving the pumpkins we found at a pumpkin patch a few weeks ago.  They were so cold after spending the last few weeks outside!!  

Everyone took turns scooping out the guts with their hands, though Kevin insisted on using a big spoon after the first time he reached inside.  :)

No pictures of the actual process, but I got some of the final product.  There is still one big one left to carve and then Jacob's mini pumpkin he found in the pumpkin patch that is way too little to be carved.  But daddy has some work things to do today, so we had to wrap up the carving session early.  Nevertheless, I think we got some great looking pumpkins out of the event.  :)

This is the scarecrow Tyler made at school on Friday with the help of his fourth grade buddy that is now decorating our front porch.

And our pumpkins from this morning's carving session.  This first done daddy made by himself and in honor of Tyler losing his first tooth, he gave the pumpkin a missing tooth in the same spot.  

Kevin asked for a spooky cat pumpkin so I helped him by carving this cat, and he decorated the cat with a black marker.

Tyler wanted a spooky, frowning pumpkin so daddy helped Tyler with his vision.  I love how spooky this one looks with all of the crackling and lack of a nose!  :)

Tyler's Kindergarten Picture and Lost Tooth

Monday after school, Kevin raced Tyler up the stairs in his excitement to show Tyler that we had spent the day working on his Halloween costume. While Kevin had Tyler's eye's closed in suspense, Kevin attempted to put Tyler's costume hat on his head. It didn't go perfectly as Kevin is a lot shorter and Tyler wasn't the most still mannequin, and in the process Kevin managed to get his hand in Tyler's mouth somehow and knock out Tyler's very loose tooth!


 Tyler was not thrilled with his brother's efforts, but once he realized the tooth was out he was elated...even despite having a bloody mouth! The excitement level in the house multiplied many times over as Tyler was so excited to have finally lost a tooth and started wondering when the tooth fairy would arrive. Tyler also enjoyed being able to stick his tongue out through the new whole is his mouth and thinks it's neat that he can also talk now while his mouth is shut. ;)

 Kevin spent the rest of the day incredibly excited. He was so thrilled to have helped Tyler get rid of his tooth, and started telling all kinds of stories about how many teeth he has knocked out of other kids and how he collects teeth too! (Sigh)

 As he was getting ready for bed, he continued pondering how the tooth fairy works and what he or she may look like. We let him talk it all out and eventually he decided that there is a Queen tooth fairy. She lives up in a magical cloud that floats around. She likes to decorate her castle with teeth, so she sends out worker fairies to trade kid's teeth for things that they want. The worker fairy uses a parachute to fly down to our chimney, and then once the trade happens flies back up to the cloud that is floating along the Earth. His only question was why he didn't get a say in what kind of trade would happen, and went to bed hoping aloud that the tooth fairy would bring a new toothbrush, or gold, or maybe a new toy.

 For once, Tyler was super eager to get into bed and insisted that everyone get to bed as QUICKLY as they could so the tooth fairy could come and not have to skip by his house. In the morning, Tyler was so excited to see that the tooth fairy left him a shiney $1 gold coin and a large silver coin that he figured out later was a half dollar. He was so thrilled to see such silly coins, and was very happy to have gotten the gold coin...since a gold coin is much more valuable than a small tooth to him.  And today Tyler brought home his first class picture! I love it and thought that I would share that too! :)

Pumpkin patch family picture

A rare picture of the five of us at the pumpkin patch today. Although it was super cold we had fun exploring the farm with friends and picked out some great pumpkins.
